At the Folk Arts Festival and Fair in Sonargaon, Bangladesh there was a family, three generations of 'Sholapith' craftworkers, making moving toys, ornaments and flowers from shola (Aeschynomene Aspera, a herbaceous plant which grows in marshland). In a small 'hamlet' near Dhaka men cast scrap brass into an open shallow mold to make a flat circular ingot. Together they then stretch up to 8 of the ingots at a time into thin sheets, which are then formed into temple gongs, ritual dishes or engraved trays for the home & tourist markets. A workshop in the Old City of Ahmedabad in Gujarat making silver and gold metal leaf for use in temples, medicines and on sweets. 70 small gold rectangles weighing a total of 10g, each one measuring 1.2cm x 2.5cm, are hammered and stretched to make finished sheets 15cm x 12.5cm.
