In the fall of 2010 a new sidewalk was built connecting Fairmount Elementary and Fairmount Park in Independence, MO. The sidewalk was part of the city's improvement plan to build more sidewalks in Independence neighborhoods, especially near schools. Fairmount LINC Site Council along with school and city officials worked to promote the Fairmount sidewalk project to the top of the city's list.

LINC returns to six schools, previously in the Kansas City Mo. School District, that are now a part of the Independence School District. Over 2,000 community volunteers came out to improve their schools. LINC now has 13 Caring Communities sites in Independence.
