Test shots for a longer video that I am making with my relatively new Letus Mini, my HV30, and my DIY portable track dolly. I spent about an hour on the Ledges Hiking Trail at Virginia Kendall today, but had to take off abruptly when the rain rolled in. The forest is quite deep at this park, so I didn't see it coming. Good test of the HV30 and the Letus Mini in relatively low ambient light conditions. As I said, this forest is very dense and very dark in places - especially beneath the ledges.
This is my first attempt at shooting in HDV24 and then removing pulldown in After Affects to edit in a 24fps timeline in Premiere Pro. It seems to have worked. If you shoot in HDV24 on the HV30 and fail to remove pulldown, you'll have a nightmare of problems if you are exporting for the Web (e.g., herky jerky dolly shots, terrible slow mo, etc.), or so I've found. If you do remove pulldown in AE, though, don't deinterlace in Premiere Pro.
I filmed everything in "Cine" mode and locked the exposure at f/2.8 and 1/48 shutter speed using "Lytecap." I think I might have screwed this up a couple of times, though, and I also think I forgot to turn the adapter on for one of the shots, but I don't think I used that one here. I haven't done much in post either. Still have a lot to learn!
The full video will be available in several weeks. I want to visit two more locations in the area: Kendall Lake and the amazing Brandywine Falls. The finished video will be dedicated to my old friend, Kleine and also my uncle, both of whom moved on recently. I saw them everywhere today. Hence the name of the video.
Special thanks to Tom Guilmette and Philip Bloom for inspiring me through their work to get into this amazing world of lens-adapter video.
