Tonight we were packed with more new players of all ages. Bagel bounty came from YorgosBageldashery in Ghent section of Norfolk, VA. We have a new helper, Nicole Greiner, seen in this video handing out goldfish crackers and lemonade. Without her help I would have tanked this week. Much love to all our mentors and families. Special shout out to Dr. Arthur Bowman of Norfolk State University for being there to support, teach and play. www.NiceChess.net

Quin, 8, and I like to spend time together on a Mommy & Me "date" and we went to Baker's Crust, where we learned the bakery must toss out a whole lot of bread daily. So we started a revolution. www.NiceChess.net is doing what we can in the old school way. Bringing the leftover bread from small bakeries (not already donating to the food bank) to those who won't…

Others just get hungray after basketball and other sports offerred at the centers prior to our chess play. So we went out and put our new 501c3 status to work in the community collecting overflow from local bakeries…

Chess mated carnival in an epic blitz match. Thanks to the Norfolk State University Spartan mascot ,who drew kids in an dthen sat and played despite bareley being able to see the board through the costume. Also, quite brave considering the carnival was held directly across the street from epic rival, Old Dominion University. As confetti eggs flew over the players heads kids gravitated to the one board I brought, making me wish I'd had more faith in…

Lamberts Point Community Center was full of surprises on this thundery, soaking night. Takes more than April showers to keep our players at home. Special thanks to Mentor Gerald Ronning who walked all the way from the senior home on 38th St. Good grief Gerald, wouldya please let me pick you up on these dreadful weather nights? At least he let me drive him home. Must must find him some boots. He wore the bags because he's saving money for a bus ticket…
