Deep within the hillside on the Pine Ridge Vineyards Napa Valley Estate lies nearly a mile of caves in which we store our treasured wines. Tucked away farthest into the mountainside is Cave 7, the most secluded wing of the system. We present to you a Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses depth, richness and complexity worthy of its namesake.
Our newest Bordeaux-style blend is Tessitura, Italian for texture, making use of the wide range of flavors and styles of wine produced from our estate vineyards. The carefully chosen lots were deftly entwined for richness and complex layers of flavor.
Since our founding in 1978, we have proudly produced appellation Cabernets that showcase the unique character of the AVAs and our estate vineyards within them. This Cabernet Sauvignon, however, was crafted to embody the ultimate essence of Napa, sourcing from our multiple appellations throughout the valley.
The fruit for this vintage was chosen from several premier sites throughout the Napa Valley, mainly the Stags Leap District and Rutherford AVAs. The bright, ripe fruit and substantial mouthfeel that characterize this complex bottling are a direct result of the meticulous care and attention to detail paid by our vineyard workers to the vines.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
The 2010 vintage was cooler than usual during the growing season, but ended with a heat wave. As a result, our Cabernet was harvested at an optimal level of ripeness in mid-October. Fermentation took place at a high temperature to ensure that maximum extraction was achieved before the wine was racked to 35% new American oak and 65% 1-3 year-old French and American oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for a total of 18 months before bottling.
Deep garnet in color, this wine presents an effusive nose that teems with aromas of fresh black cherry, warm blackberry and red plum, intertwined with hints of brambly spice, fresh ground clove and vanilla bean. The palate leads smoothly with rich red raspberry, cherry and currant fruit flavors that meld lusciously into hints of creamy caramel, cocoa powder, ground espresso bean and subtle mint leaf beneath supple tannins on the lingering finish.
Fruit-forward and food-friendly as ever, this vintage of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon makes a versatile choice for pairing. It would be lovely served alongside many meals, from smoked beef brisket and grilled vegetables, to a vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries, to a seared, fennel-crusted ahi tuna steak and salad. Hard, aged gouda makes a classic cheese course with this wine as well.
The Oakville Appellation crosses the valley from the eastern Vaca Range to the Mayacamas Mountains on the west. Gravelly soils and the mid-valley location — where morning fog rolls north from the San Pablo Bay followed by bright, warm sunny afternoons—translate into optimal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dos Olivos Vineyard: This vineyard derives its name from the two majestic olive trees that flank the entranceway to the property. In the rich, red volcanic soil of this 25-acre site, we’ve planted primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (Clones 337, 7, 8), with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Characteristics of Oakville Wines
Bordeaux style red wines produced here are well balanced, displaying bright red fruit flavors—cherry, currant and cranberry—with finely integrated tannins.
Since the 1930's the Rutherford region has been recognized as a source of superlative Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. With estate vineyards totaling 61 acres within this single appellation, we make the most of the area's well-drained gravel and loam soils, producing deeply fruited wines of outstanding balance and elegance.
