YELP Danceco.’s presentations for the 3rd Athens Biennale MONODROME focus on the subject of sacrifice, while drawing also from Nijinsky’s work.

"Exactly what I wanted" was Sergei Diaghilev’s (director of Ballet Russes) statement after the premiere of the ballet "Le Sacre du Printemps", choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky, with music composed by Igor Stravinsky, in 1913 in Paris. "Le Sacre du Printemps"was Nijinsky’s only second choreography after "L'apres-midi d'un Faune", yet its premiere ended in one of the most famous audience riots and changed ballet’s history.

Marie Sanida, "Body MARvellous"

The divided self has lost sense of her body as links to the world are disrupted. «The living being outgrows the vertigo of annihilation only in the ecstasy of procreation» concludes Benjamin in his «One-Way Street», 1928. The New can only be born when the veil of the phantasmagoria created by the commercialised world dissolves. The talk is an approach to dialectical images, to the notion of Enantiodromia, to Eros and his political dimension within the works of art.

Marie Sanida teaches and learns from children since 2002. She studied English Literature and arts in Athens and the University of London, specialising in the period 1890-1940. She curated [E]SC[H]ATOLOGY in Napoli in 2010. She is currently researching Walter Pater and Nietzsche.

Word of Mouth: Badlands Unlimited presents Phaedrus Pron by Paul Chan

Published by Badlands Unlimited, "Phaedrus Pron" is an artist book created by Paul Chan. Originally released in electronic format as a PDF, Phaedrus Pron was produced by applying one of Chan's customized and freely-downloadable computer fonts on an English translation of Plato's famous dialogue "Phaedrus" - a dialogue on art and eros, between Socrates and young Phaedrus. The result is the formatting of the original text's letters into transcribed erotic movie vocals. Highlighting the dialogue’s implicit sensuality, this simple gesture renders Phaedrus Pron into a hybrid between written and oral language.

In collaboration with Chan, Badlands Unlimited presents a theatrical adaptation of "Phaedrus Pron" that animates this idiosyncratic and abstract dialogue.
