Uhuru is taking tangible steps to achieve food sovereignty. Their Freedom Summer Project will involve remodeling their community kitchen, and having a full, luscious community garden. Community members came together on a Saturday afternoon to to celebrate Uhuru's work, break bread together and start cultivating their first garden plot.

Diop Olugbala, president of the International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement, explains the economic challenges facing this East Oakland community, and calls on the Occupy Movement and others to join in the struggle for food justice and the return of resources to the oppressed communities from where they came.
