The Visualized Conference, which just took place in New York last week, explored the new era of visual communication at the intersection of complex knowledge, visual storytelling and aesthetic design. Having become a proud sponsor of this conference, Gestalten.tv had the great opportunity to interview the speakers live and report the conference on-site. Including Sven Ehmann, our creative director, all the speakers were selected creative leaders as well as information enthusiastics. They inspired us on combining both creative and analytical sides of the brain while designing, presenting and interacting with data. In this video, we have interviewed: Amber Case, Sha Hwang, Peter Crnokrak, Michael Migurski, Benjamin Wiederkehr and Kim Rees.
Despite, or because of, the ubiquity of televisions and computers, picture books have remained popular with kids and parents. These books have also not lost their appeal for illustrators and publishing houses—not least because a hit children’s book can serve as the lucrative basis for TV programs, video games, toys, or other merchandising. In addition to its presentation of cutting-edge visuals from around the world, Little Big Books offers insightful texts for those who hope to create or market visual content for children. These include interviews with experts about the educational aspects, make-up, and psychology of children’s picture books as well as the significance of children’s book awards and practical advice on publishing rights and licensing. The publication is rounded out with an introduction that puts current work into the historical context of classic books by the genre’s seminal pioneers.

Designed as a possible title sequence for a fictitious documentary, this film shows a history of the title sequence in a nutshell. The sequence includes all the names of title designers who had a revolutionary impact on the history and evolution of the title sequence. The names of the title designers all refer to specific characteristics of the revolutionary titles that they designed.
This film refers to elements such as the cut and shifted characters of Saul Bass' Psycho title, the colored circles of Maurice Binder's design for Dr. No and the contemporary designs of Kyle Cooper and Danny Yount.

In his current exhibition SPLITTER at Gestalten Space, the young Berlin-based artist Clemens Behr creates site-specific works that are delightfully disorienting with their complex layers and improvised compositions. By laying with both construction and destruction, Behr raises questions about ephemerality and permanency, and in the same way, his installations facilitate a dialog between our perceptions in the second and third dimensions. Infographic guru Nicholas Felton sets the pace for today’s data visual narratives through his ultra-detailed Personal Annual Reports and a substantial contribution to the Facebook timeline redesign. In the recent Gestalten workshop, participants were able to pick his brain and explore the fundamental methods of data gathering along with visual storytelling techniques. Here with Gestalten.tv, Felton shares his wisdom on data visualization, articulates the history and catalyst effect of his “Feltron” reports, and of course, reveals the appeal of working at Facebook.
