  3. Meet Chris Thoreau of My Urban Farm in this second short film in our Meet your Urban Farmer series. Follow the series at overgrowthesystem.com/meet-your-urban-farmer/

    Chris is a creator, papa, urban grower of sunflower, pea, and buckwheat shoots which are then cut and pedaled to you within hours of harvest, bike-powered. Chris likes soil, compost, and microgreens. From 2001 to 2006 Chris operated Influence Organics - a small, certified organic farm, on Vancouver Island. "Too much work", he thought, "I'm going back to school". He now holds a BSc. in Agroecology from UBC where his studies focused on soils, urban farming, and plant breeding. Chris still works too much, but that's ok.

  4. Meet Jodi and Claire from the EYA (Environmental Youth Alliance) in this third short film in our Meet your Urban Farmer series. Follow the series at overgrowthesystem.com/meet-your-urban-farmer/

    Jodi co-coordinates the EYA’s Skills Link program. She facilitates all sorts of skill building workshops, teaches permaculture principles and applications, and urban agriculture techniques. She also helps oversee EYA’s Urban Seeds program, and works with volunteers and staff to save and process seed from the EYA’s Youth Garden.

    Claire coordinates EYA's volunteer program and also runs the Urban Seeds program. She enjoys leading groups of volunteers in EYA’s gardens and introducing youth to issues of food security and urban agriculture.

  5. Meet Arzeena Hamir from the Richmond Sharing Farm in this fourth short film in our Meet your Urban Farmer series. Follow the series at overgrowthesystem.com/meet-your-urban-farmer/

    Arzeena earned her Bachelor's degree in Crop Science from the University of Guelph and her Master's degree in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of London, England. Arzeena worked abroad for many years as a CUSO volunteer in Thailand and as a researcher in Jamaica, India, and Bangladesh. She was the staff agrologist for West Coast Seeds in the late '90s and ran her own seed company, Terra Viva Organics.

    Arzeena previously sat on the Board of the Richmond Sharing Farm and the Richmond Schoolyard Society, and is currently on the Board of the BC Food Systems Network. In conjunction with Kwantlen University, Arzeena helped to launch the Richmond Farm School where she taught Market Crop Production. She and her family now live in the Comox Valley where they run Amara Farm, a 26-acre mixed farm.
