As Portland State's interdisciplinary general education program, the University Studies Program (pdx.edu/unst) provides students with integrated, connected learning experiences that lay the foundation for lifelong intellectual development. Extending through all four years, the program teaches students how to think critically, communicate effectively, and gain a broad awareness of the human experience to instill a deep sense of responsibility to themselves, their peers and their community.

University Studies has won national acclaim and received many awards since its inception. Universities in Oregon and across the country have modeled their programs after ours, and foundations such as W. K. Kellogg and the Pew Charitable Trusts have recognized the work of our University Studies faculty and administrative leaders.
