Phoenix A10 with motor upgrade
In this video we demonstrate the effectiveness of the Phoenix A10 stabilized gimbal by mounting a GoPro 3 to the handle set of the Phoenix. Being mounted to the handle set, the GoPro is stabilized and will experience unstable motions typical when shooting handheld from a helicopter. We roll footage on the DSLR on the Phoenix and the GoPro simultaneously then sync them together when editing this video.
All the shots shown in this clip are synched in the exact moment. Motions you see on the GoPro camera are being imposed on the Phoenix A10. It's clear how well the Phoenix stabilizes the camera allowing for amazing insanely stable aerial shots handheld out the open door of a helicopter.
The Bell Jet Ranger 206B is known for being a rather shaky platform with it's two blade underslung rotor system. The Phoenix A10 did amazingly well. In some shots you can see a small bit of vibration reaching the camera. We've found that in helicopters like the Jet Ranger a key element to getting smooth shots is to not hold the Phoenix to tightly and not to brace any part of your body against the airframe. The best way to eliminate airframe vibration is to suspend the Phoenix by it's top handle from a bungee cord attached to the door frame of the helicopter. This allows most of the weight of the Phoenix to be supported by the bungee and your hands mostly only direct the handles for shot composition. It takes some practice but the results are nothing short of spectacular!

Shot from MD900 Explorer. Focal length was between 135 - 200mm on Canon 5D. Phoenix A10 stabilized camera gimbal was used. Performed quite well. Winds were about 12kts gusting to 20kts.
Vertical drifting is a bit excessive and due to an improperly set damping algorithm setting. We've made adjustments and vertical stabilization is now working quite well.
Here the Phoenix A10 has been equipped with the larger A50 motor on pan axis. We recommend this for Helicopter/Multirotor use as the pan axis is the axis that requires the most power.
This system is powered with 5s (18.5v) battery.
Configured in follow mode for this test but can easily be setup in lock mode with remote control functionality.
