  2. On July 23, 2011, nine-year-old Rachel Beckwith was killed in a tragic car accident on highway I-90 near Seattle, Washington. After her death, thousands of people all around the world started donating to her mycharity: water fundraising page, and over the course of a month, raised over $1.2 million in Rachel’s honor. That money is now helping 37,770 people get access to clean water.

It's been exactly a year since the accident. In honor of the anniversary, Rachel’s mom, Samantha, and her grandparents, Richard and Roseanne, visit Ethiopia with charity: water and meet some of the people Rachel helped. We’ve documented the entire day on video so we can share it with all of you.

  4. Hussein worked for his family's real estate company before the Syrian uprising became increasingly violent 8 months ago. Frequent bombings and gunfire between President Bashar al-Assad forces and Syrian rebels turned the country into one of the most dangerous place in the world. Most jobs in Syria, including Hussein's in Qusayr, disappeared.

Hussein, a pro-revolution activist who asked not to use his last name for fear of retribution, began taking pictures and videos of the violence and sending them to TV stations, free of charge. Blockades and attacks on foreign journalists in Syria has made real-time information about the conflict more and more scarce.

Broadcaster are increasingly relying on untrained citizen journalists like Hussein for insight into what's going on in the country.

In this eye-opening Storyhunter video, Hussein tells his story.

  5. Tatiana McCabe’s mixed media video, titled Restoring Sight in Bangladesh (2012) uses documentary footage, motion graphics and stop motion animation to explore the issue of cataract blindness in Bangladesh. McCabe’s interest in socially conscious filmmaking comes to life through her writing, cinematography and playful animations, which clearly explain her journalistic findings. The purpose of this film is to educate viewers about what cataracts are, why they are so problematic in developing countries and highlight the steps, which if taken, can help eradicate cataract blindness in the future.

Photos from McCabe's trips to Bangladesh.
