Proverbs 23:13-14: "Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol."
Do you love your child(ren)? If so, then God's Word tells us you will discipline them.
While CPS might grimace over this passage, this is wisdom coming from God's Word on how to correct and discipline your children. It's a vital ministry to our children to discipline; in fact, for parents, it would be criminal to NOT discipline our children. One way we can as parents love our children is to establish boundaries and enforce those boundaries through discipline (Proverbs 13:24).
This shouldn't be that foreign to us. Think about it: one of the evidences that we are a child of God is that he disciplines us (Proverbs 3:11-12). If there is no evidence of the Father's discipline in your life, than you really need to question your salvation (Hebrews 12:5-11).
As followers of Christ, the goal of our child-rearing has to be the glory of God. If our goal is to have well-behaved kids, that's not good enough; it's not God-honoring. It ultimately has to be for the glory of God.
