1. For L’Artisan Electronique, Unfold modified an open source 3d printer to print ceramics.

Aside from the ceramic printer, Unfold created a virtual pottery wheel in collaboration with Tim Knapen. This pottery wheel gives visitors a chance to ‘turn’ their own forms. At regular intervals, a selection of these designs is printed in clay and exhibited in the space. In this time-lapse video you see the print process close up.

In L’Artisan Electronique, pottery, one of the oldest artisanal techniques for making utilitarian objects, is combined with new digital techniques. The virtual pottery wheel was realsied by means of a 3D-scanner and digital design software. However, the installation still clearly refers to the artisanal process of working in clay. The printing process imitates the traditional technique used by ceramicists, in which the form is built up by stacking coils of clay.

L’Artisan Electronique is an installation commissioned by Z33 Art Centre for the exhibition Design by Performance and developed in collaboration with Tim Knapen and the RepRap community.

  2. Introducing the Mcor IRIS, the worlds first high resolution full 3D color 3D Printer.
The Mcor IRIS joins Mcor’s family of paper 3D printers and the vision of producing high quality, low cost and eco-friendly 3D prints.

Now Mcor is taking their technology to the next level with a full color 3D printer using regular letter paper and specially developed Mcor inks.

The Mcor IRIS produces sharp vibrant prints; printing on to a pure white media produces better color authenticity and reproduction when compared with other color 3D technologies. The Iris prints photo-realistic 3D parts with the resolution you would expect from a high quality 2D color printer

The IRIS will open up a world of opportunity to engineering, education, AEC, GIS and entertainment. “Now full color 3D printing will be accessible to everyone with full 3D color needs”, said Dr MacCormack.
