1. Installation at Relative Space (365 Dupont St West Toronto)
    Optimum 1

The surface-area-to-volume ratio is by definition the amount of surface area per unit volume of an object. It is a concept at play in the existence and very essence of all living organisms. An increase of the surface area per volume of organisms creates an increased exposure to the environment.

I explore this concept omnipresent in nature, by maximizing in visual terms the surface area to volume ratio of the store-front of Relative Space. The surface of the walls is now drastically increased through the incorporation of colour-beams. These colour-beams make use of the entire volume of the space and in this way maximize the surface area to volume ratio of the space.

The focal point of the beams is the outside viewer. Only from a frontal point of view are they all visible simultaneously without hiding each-other, all pointing towards the viewer.

The varied individual colours ensure that from any other angle only a few can be seen and some are therefore hidden.
