Here is the much anticipated final episode of the 3-part behind the scenes series of Madison Genesis at the 2014 Friends Life Tour of Britain.
This episode covers Tom Stewart’s ride of the week in which he came 3rd in Stage 6 after an inspirational day in the breakaway. Tom and two other riders forged a 9min gap at one point and managed to stay ahead right to the end. It also covers yesterday’s exciting close to the week’s racing against London’s iconic cityscape. True to form for Madison Genesis this week, Liam Holohan fought hard and rode brilliantly to make the early breakaway in the afternoon’s circuit race but unfortunately punctured with under 2 laps to go.
The 2014 Friends Life Tour of Britain kicked off on Sunday with a 105km circuit race in Liverpool where Alex Peters finished a solid 11th place in a crash marred finale. This was followed by an action packed 200km stage into North Wales filled with excitement and fast paced racing with Ian Bibby in the breakaway of 5 riders, building a lead of over 4 minutes, whilst also winning an intermediate sprint and taking KOM points. We have had a camera crew following the team over the first two days to captured all the action and give you an insight into what goes on behind the scenes during Britain’s biggest road race.
Last weekend was a busy one for the team, with the 4th round of the Elite Circuit Race Series held in Beverley on Friday followed by Sunday’s round 2 of the Grand Prix Road Series in Ryedale, arguably the UK’s hardest domestic circuit. Madison Genesis rider Tobyn Horton took a spectacular win at the Jupiter London Nocturne Series, Schwalbe Elite Criterium on Saturday night. The familiar 1.2km course was packed with a huge audience all eager to watch top teams battle it out on the streets of Smithfield Market. The last round of the Elite Spring Cup Road series saw Madison Genesis in the Cathedral Town of Lincoln on Sunday. A chaotic race with crashes, punctures and inclement weather saw an exciting finish with Madison Genesis rider Mike Northey finishing in second place and Alex Peters taking third in the overall standings.
