  1. For the past 11 years, a team of lighting designers and technical experts have been transforming a small forest on the outskirts of Pitlochry into what has been voted Scotland’s best cultural event. Known as ‘The Enchanted Forest’, we are delighted to say that we played a part in wowing over 40,000 visitors throughout the three week run of the renowned 2013 light show.

    Working once again with the team from NL Productions and DM Audio, as well as the award winning designers of The Enchanted Forest, we were excited to plan and design the involvement of two interactive PufferSphere M600 displays at the popular outdoor light and sound experience.

    Using the displays as interactive control points, a user’s touch on the sphere triggered one of six light and audio sources surrounding each display. Dragging a finger vertically on the sphere altered the colour of the lights illuminating trees within the forest, corresponding to the multi-coloured pallete displayed on the PufferSphere whilst also influencing the audio track being played.

    A challenging programming task on its own, the task was made more complex when we factored in that the equipment would need to remain exposed in a forest for three weeks, whilst unprotected to the often harsh conditions of a Scottish Autumn. The weather proved no match to our clever all weather engineering and set design though, with the displays operating perfectly for the whole month.

    Not content with simply having two interactive spheres at the party, our clever head of content, Tim, put his skills to use by both animating and then projection mapping a story on to a contoured hillside.

    An outstanding job by everyone involved, Faskally Woods were once again transformed into a dramatic and emotion evoking scene for the month of October. A resounding success, we would like to thank the team at NL Productions, DM Audio and Enchanted Forest for both inviting us to be a part of the project and their help in making the debut of the PufferSpheres a success.

  2. Synonymous with ultra-reliable engineering excellence, Babcock have been at the forefront of precise engineering support services for over a century. When they were looking for an effective display to showcase their presence at an upcoming trade show they chose to use a PufferSphere to translate their tagline ‘Trusted to Deliver’ into a tangible outlet.

    Displaying at the world’s leading defence and security show, DSEI, Babcock were looking to make an impression and engage with as many of the 32,000 visitors from 121 countries as possible. A huge opportunity to build on existing relationships and win new business, they chose to use an interactive PufferSphere M600 display to set themselves apart from their competition and stop the flow of traffic past their stand.

    A concept pitched and delivered by the team at Real Creative Marketing, the in-house software programming team from Pufferfish worked closely with both Babcock and Real Creative Marketing to build and deliver our most complex multi-layered application to date.

    Offering two modes, video and presentation, the sphere could be changed from branded video messages to interactive globe at the touch of a button. This allowed the sales team manning the stand to leave the display to do what it does best, attract gazes from across the aisle and draw inquisitive visitors on to the stand.

    Once on the stand, the sphere was able to be changed from ‘attractor mode’ into an interactive globe. Covered with pre-determined touch points, the globe temporarily became part of the sales team, allowing staff on the booth to start conversations, talk visitors through their operations, scope and previous work through videos, animations and interactive elements placed at each hot-spot.

    The display proved to be a great success for the show and was used to entertain and inform foreign ministers and dignitaries from around the world as well as initiate and facilitate valuable conversations with potential new clients.

    A huge thank you goes to Roger from Real Creative Marketing for coordinating both the use of the display and also the design of the application used, it was a pleasure working with him and the team at Babcock.

  3. Marking both the official launch of TechCube and holding the Edinburgh Startups Christmas party on the same evening, the team at Summerhall knew that they had to put on a party to remember! Never a group to shy away from a good shindig, the PufferTeam once again wheeled some of our kit along to contribute to the party atmosphere…

    Initially using our TwitterSphere application during the launch presentations, we displayed messages from the great and the good of the switched on Edinburgh Twitterati, adding to the already buzzing techy atmosphere.

    The evening then rolled seamlessly into the Edinburgh Startups Christmas Party, giving a chance for the hardworking creative businesses to take some time out, eat, drink and be merry! Getting into the party spirit we used an interactive 2m PufferSphere XL unit to show off our playful side. Filled with spinning TechCubes, guests were invited to explode the logos as they flew past, turning into somewhat of a competitive challenge as the attendees became less inhibited!

    Even before the official launch, there was already good reason for the team at TechCube to party. Able to boast 17 businesses who have already taken office space in the Tech Tower, they are well on their way to creating the thriving creative hub they envisage.

  4. Fresh after completing one museum installation on our doorstep, our next job could hardly have been further away. Hopping on a plane and flying across the world we swapped Edinburgh for Kuala Lumpur to install our first tablet controlled permanent display.

    The client this time was Bank Negara Malaysia, the Central Bank of Malaysia, who have recently designed and built a museum and art gallery within their new headquarters. Looking for a museum piece equally as exciting and intriguing as their new building, they came across Pufferfish and were interested to know what we could provide for their space.

    The Bank wanted to create an intuitive global visulisation allowing visitors to explore the world of Islamic Finance. The system should invite users to navigate the globe themselves via a touch screen display. The software must also be updatable, allowing the Bank to add new points of interest and stories to keep the display current. Utilising a bespoke 1.5m HardBall sphere coupled with an iPad and audio system, we proposed hanging a PufferSphere M system from the ceiling in the centre of the room – creating the impression of a floating planet.

    Placed in the Islamic Finance Gallery, the floating sphere was transformed from passive video player into an interactive exhibit via the iPad control. Users can rotate the globe by simply moving their finger across the flat map displayed on the iPad, and can select hotspots which trigger full sphere video focuses on specific regions, allowing them to explore areas of the world where Islamic Finance operates.

  5. We’re no strangers to getting on planes, and we’re lucky enough for our work to take us around the world, but even with all of this travel, the world of private jets remained untouched territory up until now…

    Working with aviation maestros Embraer Executive Jets, globally headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, we can now claim that Pufferfish has very much touched the industry, or more accurately, that the industry has touched Pufferfish.

    Seeking an intuitive format to demonstrate to clients the range circles and capabilities of their jets, ‘Embraer Executive Jets’ asked Pufferfish to design and build an interactive application which would not only grab attention in a busy trade show hall, but also change the way that their clients viewed their range data.

    Using a PufferSphere M600 interactive unit, users are able to interact with a branded digital globe. Free to spin on any axis, the user is then able to touch one of 20 points located at major cities around the world and in doing so call up a menu displaying the seven executive jets Embraer Executive Jets has to offer.

    Once the user selects their jet of choice, a calculated range circle develops from the city chosen detailing just how far you can fly. A multi-layered design of the application enables a user to select and review all seven range circles from their chosen cities helping them visualise and understand the capabilities of the Embraer Executive Jets aircraft.

    Not simply a trade show tool, in its down time the sphere is made to work just as hard as one of the jets it sells. Placed in the marketing suite of the Florida headquarters, the PufferSphere is a digital ambassador for the Embraer Executive Jets brand providing the same qualities in HQ as it does out on the road.
