My latest project, sofa 001a, exploiting the capabilities of British craftsmanship.
Title chair is a design by Alex Robins. The woven arched seat not only epitomises the attention to detail through design but also creates an optimum seating position. Made from an ash hard wood frame which is coated in a light wax to retain a soft and natural wood quality. The light weight ash frame makes the title chair a practical, maneuverable and robust chair for dining. Music by Little Dragon
Alexandra Abraham is an artist jewellery maker based in North London.
She says about her work,
"I believe that almost every material or object can be beautiful; it is simply a matter of how they are perceived. I’m inspired by the origins of my materials and excited by the physical process of turning the lost and the forgotten into something exquisite, glamorous and even wearable. The sense of history and knowledge that people have handled and used my materials many years ago is extremely important to me, and I like to imagine that something of their spirit becomes invested
in my work."
This film looks at Alexandra's process and exploration of the Thames Foreshore where she finds the objects and inspiration for her jewellery. It was filmed on location at Alexandra's studio at the Chocolate Factory in North London and the Thames Foreshore at Rotherhide. ABOUT THE LIVING FURNITURE PROJECT
Based in our workshop just off Brick Lane, we employ and train homeless Londoners to make beautiful bespoke furniture.
We are dedicated to sustainability - upcycling old unwanted furniture or working with waste materials reclaimed from the local area.
Every piece is unique - designed to your brief by one of our partner designers, who then teach our homeless Apprentices to build the furniture in our fully equipped workshop.
Apprentices also work alongside a Mentor - a professional and experienced furniture maker who teaches them valuable skills, and ensures a beautiful, crafted final product.
This unique way of working makes for a beautifully crafted and socially positive end-product, that you'll love now, and for generations to come.
This is a short film announcing the first three designers to be selected for BRINK 2013.
