  4. Collaboration with Maggie Slattery and Catherine Truman, as part of Thinking Through The Body - ArtLab 08.
This is a short excerpt from a video I made for the group exhibition 'Peripheral' at RMIT Project Space in Melbourne, Australia. The three interviews that you can hear where recorded in response to the same video footage. In this version, I have combined individual recollection from Maggie and myself on the left channel, and a conversation we had watching the videos afterwards in the right channel. You need to adjust the ballance on your stereo, or use headphones, and move them back and forth - to listen to the different perspectives!
Our aim in recording these recollections has been to uncover some of the details of this type of tactile interaction - to uncover the various dimensions of felt experience at play for both Maggie (the practitioner) and myself as the recipient, with a view to applying these insights to the development of touch focused art practices.

  5. Documentation of The Heart Library Project as shown at St. Vincent's Public Hospital, in Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia.

Interactive art project by George Khut, with David Morris-Oliveros and Jason McSweeney, 2009.

Heart Rate controlled interactive visuals, and hand-drawn experience maps and interviews made by visitors to the exhibition.

The exhibition was presented on Level 4 of the Xavier building, in a large waiting room area adjacent to the main escalators and elevators, and just down the corridor from the Heart and Lung Center.

Visitors to the exhibition came from across the hospital community, from patients and their families, to nurses, pastoral care workers and cleaning staff.

We recorded more than fifty experience-maps over the twelve days of the exhibition, and you can hear some of the interviews we recorded in this video clip.Produced with funding from an Australia Council, Inter-Arts Office "Research & Development Project grant", and presented in collaboration with the St.Vincent’s Campus Arts Committee and d/Lux/Media/Arts.

George Khut - concept, production, audio-visual design
    David Morris-Oliveros - visualisation software
Jason McSweeney - heart rate analysis software
    Anne Laerkeson - exhibition technician
Naomi Derek and Julia Landrey - interviews
    Caitlin Newton-Broad - concept development
