This industry is undergoing dramatic change. How can an independent studio adapt and succeed in such a landscape? What are the lasting trends and how has Remedy's thinking and actions evolved to take these into account? The value chain is being redefined as digital distribution gains on retail and new business models are disrupting the industry.This talk will go through these and other shifts in our industry and how they see one can best seize these opportunities and avoid the threats from the perspective of an independent studio. Remedy is currently working on an unannounced iOS project as well as the highly anticipated Quantum Break, developed exclusively for Xbox One.

Mark Cerny, Lead Architect Playstation4
Mark Cerny is probably the most wanted speaker in the games industry. Cerny's first major success is usually cited as Marble Madness in which he, at age 18, acted as the designer. For years he worked with Sega in Japan and the United States, where he worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 2.He was the vice president and then president of Universal Interactive Studios. He has worked extensively with Naughty Dog (on the Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter series and the first Uncharted game), Insomniac Games (on the Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank series and Resistance series), and Sony. But on February 20th 2013, at the global Sony PlayStation 4 unveiling event in New York City, his career becomes even more relevant as he was revealed as the console's lead architect. During his one-of-a-kind speech in Gamelab Barcelona, Mark will share the story behind the design of one of the platforms that for sure will lead the market in the following years.

Michel Ancel is a French video game designer for Ubisoft. He is best known for creating the Rayman franchise, for which he was the lead designer for the first two games, and the recent Rayman Origins. Originally designed for the Atari Jaguar in 1995, a PlayStation version was developed and released around the same time, and further ports were created for MS-DOS and Sega Saturn in 1996. It has appeared in various other formats, such as Game Boy Advance, PlayStation Network and DSiWare. Celebrating 18 years since Rayman was brought to our lifes, Michel will do a one of a kind talk where he shares his vision and experience creating emotions that go beyond the gameplay.

Coming from a background in film and literature, Patrice Desilets has used his creative vision to shape several world hits in which he has taken a creative lead, including Assassin's Creed and its 2009 sequel Assassin's Creed II, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, among others. After 15 years working in some of the most succesful AAA games, he will share with the audience what he has learned, what are his tricks of the trade in the big games business and what he forsees for the future... if there is any, that for him would be the big question.
