After crossing the French Alps non-stop last summer, Mavic ambassador Mike Cotty prepares to take on his longest and toughest journey to date, a 1000km traverse of the Dolomites, Eastern Alps and Swiss Alps featuring 21 mountains and 23,000 metres of elevation. Watch how Mike and his team get ready as they embark on an adventure of new and unknown limits. The Road to Mont Blanc - coming August 2014.
Strength and determination in the face of adversity is one of the hallmarks of a remarkable athlete. Nicolas Roux demonstrated both characteristics when he attempted to set a new record for the famous Tour du Mont Blanc. This 334km route, with 5 major mountain passes and 8000m of elevation gain, leaves no room for weakness. Nico faced the challenges of bad weather and tough conditions to finish the ride, and he explored his personal limits of endurance along the way.
In this, the 2nd episode of his 2014 film series, we see Fabien Barel reflecting on a new course, one focused on recovery rather than riding the trail ahead. Fab’s riding season was cut short when a crash in Chile during the first Enduro World Series event left him with a badly fractured vertabra. “This exercise in recovery is clearly a mental challenge, » said Fab. « A challenge that is not different from racing. I need to dedicate myself to it and put all my energy into it to stay solid.” For such a strong and energetic rider as Fab, it’s a defining moment of his life. But as you’ll see, he also recognizes that things could be much worse, and in fact he’s lucky to have a good life and all its opportunities. For now, the Fabien Barel Presents series is on hold while he spends the summer regaining strength. We hope to see him back on the bike soon, in new episodes of FBP!
Few companies in cycling can boast of a 125-year history in the sport, but Mavic is proud to celebrate this significant anniversary of our company's founding. From the early days, support for the top athletes of the professional peloton has been part of our DNA. To share this feeling, during a special night in April, we invited champions and legends of the sport, people like Stephen Roche, Sean Kelly, Laurent Jalabert, Christian Prudhomme, Johan Van Summeren, Florian Rousseau, and many more, to a "Mavic museum" on display in Lyon. This video of the evening demonstrates the incredible experiences these riders have had over the years with our products, and it shows the passion for innovation and performance that drives Mavic.
Mavic’s Crossmax XL Wheel-Tyre System is made to be durable and versatile, for enduro adventures of every kind. The demands of this style of riding, unconstrained by a race course, include steep climbs, rugged descents, and everything in between. We introduced these wheels to the media with a special 2-day ride camp, starting from the mountains above Nice and finishing down to the Mediterranean Sea. As you’ll see, the terrain served up every kind of challenge, but the group had no problems to enjoy the experience. Live the adventure by watching the film, and have a taste of what’s possible!
