This was an odd video to do since it seems to be a simple topic but when talking about it out loud it starts sounding complicated. I'm basically covering several sub-topics which support the overall topic. Despite the confusing ramblings in the video, what you should take away from it is that in VOP COPs, the "Raster Depth" setting can cause results to vary depending on the data generated inside.

This video covers a way to assign multiple materials on different groups or merged object using a single shader. It's a nice little trick to help maintain your shaders in certain situations.
You can find the high res video and the hipnc file as well as other Houdini tutorials at my site: http://www.geneome.com.
This is the first of my series on Houdini 9.5's Image Planes. It covers the basics: what are they, how do you use them, etc. and is the a must see video if you watch the rest of the series.
The large resolution videos and any support files can be downloaded on my website (www.geneome.net).
In this video I use image planes in Houdini to pull out data from a shader, which in this case is occlusion information. I discuss how we're going to do it and why the supplied occlusion VOP that ships with Houdini 9.5 isn't what we want.
The large resolution videos and any support files can be downloaded on my website (www.geneome.net). I created a nice Occlusion digital asset after I made this video, so that might be worth checking out.
So if the occlusion VOP in Houdini 9.5 isn't what we want, how to we get the one we want into the shader? This video explains how using the inline code VOP.

So now we have the occlusion plane, but how can we control it better? This video goes over extra arguments you can add to the VEX occlusion function and the parameters you can create to control them.
The large resolution videos and any support files can be downloaded on my website (www.geneome.net). I created a nice Occlusion digital asset after I made this video, so that might be worth checking out.
In this video I go over what the Light Export part of the Image Plane is used for using BRDF functions.

Here is a fun bonus video on how to get the object or primitive IDs from objects and then how to use them in compositing. I personally don't like using this technique, but it's available, so someone might have a need.

Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
