The Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program was created by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) to increase the number of biomedical and behavioral scientists from minority groups. The overall objective of the MARC Program is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities engaged in biomedical research by strengthening the science curricula at minority-serving institutions and increasing the research training opportunities for underrepresented students and faculty. A key objective of the MARC Program is the encouragement, preparation and support of underrepresented minority students in the pursuit of postgraduate education leading to the Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or other combined professional degree-Ph.D. in the biomedical and behavioral sciences.
