    The University of Illinois Jazz Trombone Ensemble scored an unprecedented double victory by winning the two major competitions in the same year. Under the leadership of Jim Pugh, they played Scott Ninmer’s compostion ‘Just Waiting’ for us live on this edition of “Live and Local.”

    The Piper’s Hut Concert Series brings national and international artists in traditional Celtic music to Champaign-Urbana. Bua, a four-piece band based in Chicago, was one group featured this year. They were named “Top Traditional Group” at the 2009 Irish Music Awards, and they played for us live on the this edition of “Live and Local.” Here is the song, An Baitsiléir.

    The Mattoon-based acoustic band Resonation Station and their many instruments join host Kevin Kelly to perform original and cover songs in the studio for a lively hour. In the first half of the video, they play ‘Used to Call Me Baby’ by Split Lip Rayfield. This is followed by a fun interpretation of the Jimi Hendrix tune ‘Crosstown Traffic.’ Resonation Station is Collin Richey, Jeremy Taylor, Jordan Schilling and JB Faires.

    Yamma Ensemble from Israel had a week-long residency in Charleston and they joined us live on the Thursday edition of “Live and Local,” with music from Balkan, Gypsy, Sephardic, Yemenite and other traditions.
