One of Athens’ most prestigious edifices, the Zappeion Exhibition Hall, was the perfect setting for NAFA’s gala celebration and fur fashion show. Held on March 27th, 2013, the second evening of the Athens Fur Fair, over 500 guests experienced an evening that brought together the grandeur of the past and excitement for the future.
Located in the heart of Athens, the Zappeion was built in the late 1800s and its classic Greek columns were the portal for those arriving for the finale spring show in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Black NAFA label. Guests were awe struck with the magnificence of the reception halls that were transformed for the evening to highlight the beauty of Black NAFA with a static display of the archive collection of signature pieces from the past 10 years.
The excitement of the evening escalated when the media wall turned and the center courtyard of the Zappeion was unveiled revealing a wonderland of light and architectural delights.
Michael Mengar, President and CEO of NAFA, took to the stage to welcome government officials, media and industry VIPS. After a brief introduction, a special awards presentation was held and buyers of Top Lots from NAFA’s record setting February sale received their engraved plaques.
The anticipation was high as the lights faded. From the time the music began and the first model made her entrance, the audience was totally caught up in the magic of the moment. The audience was mesmerized with highlights from the collections of Greek manufacturers Ego, Abel, Luxor, Obsession, Langiotti and Di Cara. Also featured were designs by Braschi of Italy and Kati Stern for Venexiana and Biphu Mohapatra of New York.
The finale scene received tremendous applause as the Black NAFA Anniversary Collection was paraded around the catwalk. These ten unique garments were created by international designers including; Gianfranco Ferre, Italy; Michael Kors, USA; Guy Laroche, France; Lie Sang Bong, Korea; Mark Cheung, China; Vlassis Holevas, Greece; James Long, Great Britain; Carmen Alen, Argentina and Lucian Matis, Canada.
The post show reception found guests offering top marks for this gala event and praising NAFA for their continued support of the fur trade worldwide and for this very special night in Athens.
