(This is the long and uncut version of this video. A shorter and updated version will be available March 2014)
This film was shot and edited in April 2013. It describes some of the impacts of industrialisation, specifically the mining boom, on the indigenous people of Northern Scandinavia, the Sami.
The land accessible to them for reindeer herding is being constantly restricted as more and more industrial developments expand. This process is forcing the Sami to assimilate into Swedish mainstream society, and thus lose not only their traditional livelihood, but also their unique connection to the land.
Unless something is done soon, the reindeer herders of Northern Scandinavia will soon be gone.
