Kate Tucker & the Sons of Sweden hail from the Northwest corner of Seattle Washington amidst the fisherman and sailors of Ballard. They play lush indie pop with sparkling melodies, shimmering soundscapes, and beats like a train on a track.
The group formed in the fall of 2006 to work on songs that Kate had written for a new record. Their self-titled debut was recorded and produced by Ryan Hadlock (Blonde Redhead, Metric, The Gossip), at Bear Creek Studio in February 2007. It features Nic Danielson of The Kindness Kind and Seattle folk luminary Damien Jurado.
Upon release, Itunes featured the album on its Indie Singer-Songwriters page, Starbucks added the record to their in-store playlists, and “Faster than Cars Drive” topped the blog charts on Elbows. The record went on to chart CMJ stations across the country. In July, they were named a CMJ Spotlight Artist, and Starbucks featured "Faster than Cars Drive" on their new music comp, "Have You Heard."
Named by Sound Magazine as one of 10 bands to watch in 2008, the Sons of Sweden are taking the show on the road. Their first stop was Austin, Texas, where they played their debut SxSw showcase. Spring took Kate and the Swedes eastward to NYC and the summer was full of west coast shows. They are now back in Seattle hard at work on the next record.
The self-titled debut from Kate Tucker & the Sons of Sweden is now available at Itunes , CDBaby, Amazon, and Sonic Boom Records.
