1. WHO NEEDS THE SHINGLES VACCINE? An update on the burden of disease, prevention and when to vaccinate the immunocompromised patients

    The International Centre for Infectious Diseases (ICID) offered this educational webinar on shingles (zoster) on April 10, 2013. The webinar was moderated by Dr. Allan Ronald OC, a notable infectious disease specialist and Senior Scientific Advisor at ICID. Two internationally recognized speakers covered a variety of zoster related topics.
    1- Dr. Marla Shapiro (Family Physician and Associate Professor in Family & Community Medicine at University of Toronto)
    Topic: Shingles Prevention: A Clinical Update & the Emergent Role of Immunization

    2- Dr. Deepali Kumar (Associate Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation at University of Alberta)
    Topic: Vaccination Considerations for Immunocompromised Patients

    These topics include the epidemiology and burden of disease associate with herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia, pathophysiology and clinical manifestations, best practices for pain management and treatment, approaches to prevention, and immunization considerations for immunocompromised patients. Following the presentations questions were accepted and discussed by the presenters.
