1. Change Talk: Childhood Obesity™ (Change Talk) is an online and mobile app designed to help health professionals learn to manage challenging family and patient conversations regarding childhood obesity and its attendant risk factors.

It is built as a virtual practice environment in which healthcare providers assume the role of a physician and engage in a conversation where they decide what to say to a mother and her son – virtual humans who possess individual personalities, emotions and memories. Their goal is to apply Motivational Interviewing (MI) tactics to address the family’s resistance and create actionable opportunities for behavior change.

Change Talk is an initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight (ihcw.aap.org) and Kognito (kognito.com), leaders in immersive learning experiences with virtual humans that drive positive change in health behaviors.

  3. This is a recording of a Webinar presented Tuesday, February 25, 2014 to introduce "Tobacco Sales: Do the Right Thing," an online interactive training simulation for tobacco merchants produced by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). The session featured DMHAS’s Prevention Services Coordinator Robin Cox and Supervising Special Investigator Gregory Carver, who described the rationale and the process for creating the new training. The presentation also included a live demonstration of the online program by Ron Goldman, CEO of Kognito Interactive, which created the interactive program.

The State of Connecticut has long been in the forefront of tobacco merchant education, recently initiating a cross-disciplinary steering committee that included several state agencies, prevention community and tobacco retailers. Together they determined that a key ingredient missing in tobacco merchant education was practice handling interactions with customers around checking ID and the sale of individual cigarettes. Tobacco Sales: Do the Right Thing is designed to address this gap in training.
