This project used the idea of a street band that lively attracted attention but played silently on the street, near the WOW hall —a popular alt-music venue in down town Eugene, OR. In this project two figures face each other across an ally. One reaches out and his hand appears to cross the space and enter the others frame. The exchanges are sometimes gentle —wiping off of a tear and at other time more aggressive —slapping the others face. Re:Member is an interactive multimedia installation that engages group-user experience. The piece explores the varying degree of perspective in shared memory through the vocabulary of classic home made movie footage and period sound material. This interactive piece encourages the viewer to identify unexpected grotesque qualities in video accompanied by audio, which otherwise could be described as beautiful. The tracking system is set up to recognize two figures within the space with infrared light values by the camera positioned above the gallery space. When participants enter the space, those who use their movement controls aspects of the video such as position, volume, and sharpness.…
