This is the official trailer for the feature-length documentary 'Nowa Cumig : The Drum Will Never Stop', which is currently beginning the film festival circuit. The film follows the path of Nowa Cumig, better known as Dennis Banks, co-founder of the American Indian Movement. From the Custer riots to the original Longest Walk, the canoe races held on Leech Lake reservation each year and the subsequent cross-continental Longest Walks in 2008 and 2011, the film explores the life of the man behind the revolution with never-seen-before archival footage. Excerpts from The Hopi Prophecy, speeches by Philip Deere, Nichidatsu Fujii Guruji, Thomas Banyacya, Russell Means and Bill Wapepah, as well as footage from Land & Life, the Sacred Run, and Last Stop Before Wounded Knee, are also featured in the film. This film was chosen to be the opening film for 'Simply Screen: In Betweeners of Asia' at the Tanzfabric in Berlin. Inspired by the curiosity cabinets of the 1800s, and the dissection and exploration of minimal objects or themes in the Renaissance, this piece is the first in a series of 'treasure boxes' which I dubbed 'the wonder chambers'. This Wonder Chamber was created after a stay in Japan, which inspired me to draw parallels between the life and space between Tokyo and the deserts of New Mexico, in a trifecta of my spiritual, social and professional life which splits my time between both worlds. At a private screening in Japan late 2010, one of the guests, an American painter, remarked, after viewing Wonder Chamber no 1 : 'Your films are like a prayer'.
Wonder Chamber no…
This is a collection of my own film pieces, which wax poetic on the pulse of the world, delving into human landscapes, open deserts and urban jungles, temples and apartment blocks... More to come..
