When meeting with Dr. Guida, we knew that we wanted to highlight his artistic approach to cosmetic surgery as well as his extreme technical skill. Through the course of our interview, we discovered that he is an accomplished classical pianist. We proposed a performance by Dr. Guida as a way to illustrate a compelling story about the evolution from technical mastery to true artistry. Dr. Guida skeptically agreed to the proposal and choose Gnossienne No.1 by Erik Satie (a piece that is considered quite difficult) to perform for our shoot. We had never heard Dr. Guida play piano before and he kept insisting that he “wasn’t very good”. We were nervous, but we showed up at the doctor’s home prepared to film him playing piano. Watch the video to see how it turned out.

Jean Filostin, a native Haitian, found himself living a comfortable middle class life in the Maryland/DC suburbs. Faced with the knowledge of the hardships and neglect that was being endured in his homeland, Jean made the decision to give up his comfortable life to heed the "call" that he received to go back to Haiti and help in any way he could. In 2000 Jean founded the Institute of Grace (IOG) to provide educational opportunities and healthcare services to poor and underprivileged people in Haiti.
Through his work at IOG Jean was exposed to the plight of the people of Merger,Haiti that have no access to any qualified medical care. With the closest hospital being 2-3 hours away by car, many of the ill and injured in this community suffer unnecessary deaths because they cannot not reach a treatment center in time. In 2005, IOG broke ground on Miracia Hospital in Merger that will bring general medical, surgical, pediatric and dental treatment to the people of Merger and the surrounding community.
The Institute of Grace is a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) organization that serves and supports the communities of Port-au-Prince, Delmas, and Merger in Haiti.
When we travelled to Haiti to interview Jean and film the construction at the Miracia Hospital site, we found ourselves in a challenging production environment, to say the least. Using the partially constructed surgical area as our production headquarters, we learned to work without computers, internet connection or a reliable source of electrical power. With the generosity and participation of the local community, we were able to overcome the obstacles, complete the project and develop some lasting friendships while we were there. We hope the resulting video is a testament to what is achievable with extremely limited resources.

When we sat down with Dror, we wanted to talk about his design philosophy and approach, yes, but, we also wanted to see that approach in action. We wanted to expose the physical manifestation of his design aesthetic. Dror didn't know what was coming. As soon as the camera rolled, we emptied a box of Tinker Toys on a table and asked Dror to build something spontaneously. In the finished video, we not only get to talk to Dror about his work and philosophy, but we get to see him in action as he creatively solves a new challenge.
