Architectural Chronicles of Generation X
Alejandro Zaera Polo
A selection of the most important writings by Alejandro Zaera-Polo
This compilation of texts written since 1986 reveals a parallel activity to Alejandro Zaera-Polo's professional life. The book is like a sniper’s log, a register of events for the purpose of accumulating experience for future missions, be it academic or professional, trying to identify tendencies and to assess performances, rather than to establish truth.
Nature changes along with us
Edited by Koert van Mensvoort and Hendrik-Jan Grievink
Today the human impact on our planet can hardly be underestimated. Climate change, population explosion, genetic manipulation, digital networks, plastics islands floating in the oceans. Untouched old nature is almost nowhere to be found. “We were here”, is written all over.

Seven radically common sense ideas on aging and architecture
More geography. Less architecture
Overcoming an urban void, constructing an artificial landscape
An epic undertaking: the construction of a landscape along the Manzanares river in Madrid
The book presents the MADRID RIO PROJECT (2005-2011), as a paradigmatic solution to the typical problem of voids and cracks in contemporary consolidated urban fabric: a large-scale intervention which tackles the restitution of an open wound in the consolidated city centre by means of a totally new operation.
The answer here was to build an artificial landscape over a large infrastructure of relocated underground road tunnels, along the course of the river. Six contemporary landscapes show the different ways of integrating the river in the urban centre, transforming it into a new urban connector. The park, more than six kilometres long, crosses the city from north to south and offers all kinds of leisure activities: pedestrian and cycling lanes, sports pitches, playground areas for children, a riverside beach, kiosks, restaurants, scenic viewpoints, wooded areas, spaces where temporary events can be staged and a large cultural centre.
An exemplary case study on urban renovation involving major road infrastructure
A collaboration between four architect studios: Burgos&Garrido Arquitectos, Porras La Casta Arquitectos, Rubio&Álvarez-Sala Arquitectos, and West 8 Landscape and Urban Planning Architects.
