Alaska: Nature's Labratory

This is a video sample of video taken using a Forward Looking Infra Red (FLIR) camera to capture reindeer behavior at the Large Animal Research Station (LARS) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. We hope to use this approach, mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), also known as a drone, to study distributions and behavior of large mammals in Alaska such as musk oxen, caribou, dall sheep and moose. The research and outdoor adventures of Sophie Gilbert, a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Alaska is the Ideal place to learn about the natural world, both as a scientist and adventurer. Wildlife species thrive in diverse habitats, from coastal temperate rainforests to glaciated mountain peaks, tundra, and boreal forests. See a few of my adventures and research projects.
