  3. James Kalm occasionally has the privilege of presenting video reports presenting works by contemporary artists that he's become acquainted with over decades. Andrew Masullo has long been an inspirational creative force within the painting community. His legion of fans bare testament to his popularity. Using flat forms and high-keyed color, his deceptively simple compositions have all the wit and humor of non-objective visual puns. These smallish paintings are a celebration of painterly skill and a unique vision. Includes an interview with Andrew Masullo and cameo appearance by fan Jerry Saltz.

  4. James Kalm returns on the DL (Down Low) to record this quick walking tour of "Recent Paintings" by John Currin. Simultaneously being chided as a male "sexist" and championed as a Post Modern iconoclast, John Currin has continued to enhance his skills with old masterly techniques. Melding classic nudes with historical tropes Currin continues to befuddle critics with his strange erotic tableaus.

  5. James Kalm is wrapping up the year with some views of shows opening in the last weeks of 2010. Five from L.A. features paintings by young emerging artists with a varied view. Whitney Bedford, Kirsten Everberg, Alexandra Grant, Iva Gueorguieva and Annie Lapin are all California based painters who meld representation with abstraction or the mediation of pigment.
Mitchell-Innes & Nash presents works by a trio of reductive abstract artists that blur the boundaries between painting sculpture and installation. This exhibition composed of works by Jacob Kassay, Virginia Overton and Robert Morris presents the works of two younger artists who are extending the legacy of Morris's Post-Minimalist aesthetics: simplicity of form, truth to materials and an explicit display of the means of fabrication.
