This was my first animation short film using characters. Originally, it was going to be a final course exercise, but i expanded it to a true shortfilm.

Synopsis
"A cruel tale about a child´s nightmares and his world of dreams..."

Animation stories tend to have very similar treatments; something uncommon are animation terror plots. I see terror genre as one based more on psychological elements than on a fullness of viscera or than a course of empty tensions created by film cut and sound. If you want to feel afraid, read short tales of Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft ad other masters like them. If you want to feel more afraid, you can turn on T.V. and try understanding the society where we live. If you want to feel the strongest emotions, turn off T.V. explore your own mind, and find yourself.

The other main ingredient was the opportunity of explore dream´s world, melt it with reality and find ways of creating anguish and tension pulling everybody inner strings. That Scary-Dreamy mix is perhaps this short main value and at the same time, its bigger dead weight because damages fluent plot understanding after turning the story very metaphorical and primeval.

In March 2003 I had spent some months learning 3D Animation when I was offered the chance of making a small final course exercise. I decided to reach to my maximum potential at the time making a first short film.

This shortfilm start point is based on music and images blend together in order to create a particular atmosphere.

It was a great learning experience.

This is a 3D replica of the statue devoted to the Demon, placed in El Retiro park, Madrid.

I did it in 2004. It began as a modelling exercise and become a new personal challenge that cost a lot of time. The most difficult part was to recreate hair and wings; I needed to trace maps describing how hair strands and feathers was placed at the original statue from reference pictures.

This work was made from scratch using polygonal modelling. Unfortunately, the original mesh file was lost at a burden hard drive. Today a work of this kind would have been done using ZBrush or Mudbox in half the time or less. Maybe some day I will redo it.
