CLEARWATER — Even though it was the inaugural Pinellas County boys basketball private school all-star game, and there was one record that may never be broken.

The North defeated the South 122-113 Saturday night in a contest where eight of the first nine buckets were 3-pointers. There were 19 3-point shots made in the first half, 11 more in the second half — 30 for the game.

Eighteen players scored. Thirteen scored from 3-point range.

"We knew we had good 3-point shooters on our team," said South MVP Tracy Parks of St. Petersburg Catholic. "We saw what it said in the newspaper about how we were projected to lose, so we were just trying to get up and down in the fast break."

One of the more specific problems facing the South was the Calvary Christian's and North's MVP Christian Bibi Ndongo, who at 6 feet 7 can block shots by simply stretching his arms.

"We knew about Bibi and blocking all those shots during the year, so we knew we had to get our outside shots, which we did, but it didn't last," said Parks, who had three 3-pointers.

Ndongo led the North with 26 points, including three 3-pointers.

"I enjoyed playing," he said. "I wish I could have done better. The most fun was playing with the other kids."

Calvary Christian's Val Rogatkin had 25 points, including two 3-pointers, for the North.

Parks scored a game-high 31. Drew Phillips of Northside Christian scored 24 for the South, including a game-high seven 3s.

Others scoring in double digits for the North were Oldsmar Christian's Jordan Fair (17), Calvary Christian's Emmanuel Delgado (15) and Braden Dollar (10), and CCC's Steven Signore (10). For the South, Keswick Christians stars Tarvin Jones and Lars Larson scored 13 and 12, respectively. Northside Christian's Tyler Stowell chipped in 12.

The South had a 58-54 halftime lead, but the North fought back to tie it at 82 and outscore the South from there. Players from both teams stood and watched as the clock ran out — Ndongo got a pass under the basket and slammed in a dunk to end the game.

The Pinellas County public school senior all-star game was a highlight show that featured the likes of Lakewood center Mike Morrison and Dixie Hollins guard Devonta Davis for the South team, and the Pinellas Park duo of Cam Carden and Jake Troyli for the North team.

Davis led all scorers with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers, and Lakewood guard Reggie Reed scored 17 as the South beat the North 120-102 in the PCAC All-Star game.

Morrison added 16 points, and Boca Ciega forward Orhian Johnson scored 14.

"This is a great way to end our high school careers," Davis said. "The competition's real high, and it was real fun to get out here with everyone.

"It was special for me because I started my career here, and I end it in this same gym."

With Davis raining 3-pointers, Morrison lit up the crowd with his powerful dunks. Seven of Morrison's eight baskets came on dunks, including a two-handed flying jam that gave the South a 79-78 lead midway through the second half.

"It was a great opportunity to get out here and play with the best of the best in the county," said Morrison, who has a scholarship to play at George Mason.

Morrison, along with Davis and Reed, were instrumental in helping the South rebound from a 51-48 halftime deficit. The South used Morrison's highlight-reel dunk in a 14-2 run to put the game away.

Carden led the North with 21 points, and Troyli had 10 points. Fellow Patriots forward Jesse Woods added 12.

During halftime, Morrison beat out Clearwater forward John Burke and Dixie Hollins forward Mike Lacy for the dunk title with a performance similar to that of Orlando Magic forward Dwight Howard in the NBA's dunk contest.

Before his third dunk, the Lakewood star revealed a shirt that read "Super Mo" and Reed strapped on a cape to his teammate before Morrison leaped over Reed, who was sitting in a chair in front of the basket.
