1. I discuss the capability of integration of CG (your scene) into real-life or real-world images using the basic capabilities of Blender: nodes, and sequencer. I don't go into details, just covering what the tools are and how the different tools work together.

  2. In this introduction to compositing segment, I answer a lot of basic questions: What is a compositing node and how do I use it? How do I add one, move it around, thread it into my noodle, and get rid of it? What are sockets and all those little icons? Manipulating the curve control, clipping, handle types

I also give Tips and advice on desktop/ workspace management /arrangement/ collapsing. Hotkeys: G, X, Shft-D, E, H, and mouse actions, drawing on similarities to the 3D View.

  3. I explain all about the Video Sequence Editor in Blender - what the different window types are, the Sequencing screen layout and the window types - User Preferences (and changing the Mem Cache Limt), Ipo Sequence, VSE - Results, VSE - Strips, Timeline, and Buttons. Adding strips, strip info, how image info gets from 3D View to a Scene strip. Extending strips, cutting rollup and rolldown, effects strips, Cross effect, Home key and window management, positioning physical strips within your composite.

I also discuss output to image sequence or avi, upscale and downscale resolution, output location, framerates, the speed effect, plugin effects, Practical demo of adding a title to the beginning of a video of the Panama Canal.

  4. I create a new Screen Layout (workspace, desktop) to use when Compositing: 8-Nodes. and initialize this new default User setup used in all future tutorials. I also teach how to move the window around, what the starting nodes are and do (RenderLayer, Composite, Viewer) Backdrop, , how threads work in the noodle, rendering the composite. Also I talk about basic window management and splitting, and using the UV/Image Editor to view images/results.

  5. This video has been superceded by vimeo.com/1902065 because in Blender 2.46, you can now see the image as you edit it in Textured viewport shading mode, so the rig and setup is the same, but you do not need the curve guides and it is a LOT easier to edit. Note also that you can move either the projection grid vertices, OR the UV Coordinates. If you use the projection grid, you can use the sculpt mode as well, as shown in the new vid.

Do localized image distortion using Blender3D. The rig is a simple UV-textured plane filmed using an orthographic camera. We then subdivide the plane, add some curve guides, and use proportional editing to alter an image. The above before-after shot shows a nose job (rhinoplasty), teeth filing, raise cheekbones, enlarged eyes, and a lengthened face.
