Videos from:
Thursday October 21, 2010: Actors read New Plays by Brooklyn Playwrights, Joseph Goodrich, Barbara Cassidy, Lizzie Olesker and composer, Mary Lloyd-Butler Curated by playwright, Rosemary Moore.

November 11, 2010 at 8PM: Fiction and Memoir by Veterans of Vietnam and Iraq, featuring Juri Jurjevics, Roy Scranton, Philip Klay, Jacob Siegal , and Matt Gallagher author of "Kaboom, Embracing the Suck in a Savage Little War". The Old Stone House, the site of the Battle of Brooklyn, one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War, is an appropriate setting for this literary event, which will highlight writing by those who know war first hand. As Roy Scranton writes in an essay published in the New York Times that chronicles his path from youth to soldier to civilian writer in New York City “The prior four years of my life hung over my days like the eerie and unshakable tingle of a half-remembered dream — “my time in the Army” — and the sense of chronic disconnection was getting to me. I walked between two worlds: the New York around me and the Army in my head.”

January 20, 2011: The Truth and Oral History (the double life of the interview) The curator,John Guidry, writes: "Stories do not tell themselves.  Even once they are told and recorded, stories need some help to be heard and live in the world.  This month’s Brooklyn Reading Works will look at the processes by which people collect stories and use them to tell stories.  We will have panelists who use oral history practices to document our world and the lives we lead, and the conversation will explore the work it takes to make stories interesting and give them legs to stand on, as it were.  Panelists will represent and explore several different genres and styles of the oral historian’s craft, from traditional first-person historical storytelling to the mediations of photography, marketing, multimedia, and social advocacy—as well as stories of how collecting stories ultimately affects the lives of oral historians as authors and curators of the human experience."
