SBL has been going for over a year now and what better way to celebrate than to get all of our favourite clips from each episode and edit them to a world class rock band.
Considering the size of Great Britain it has produced countless world class musicians over the years and Wales is just one tiny little corner of Britain. It's funny because it's so small everything is very accessible and if you ever need anything, someone will know someone... So for this episode I rang up Cardiff based DJ Neil Navarra and asked him if he knew any cool rock bands, within one hour he had secured us the Lostprophets!! The film is about, how a young surfer looks at the sport in his local environment, Portugal.
Our character is the under 14 national champion 2011,Guilherme Fonseca, and the film represents his will and his inspiration to become a pro surfers, by looking up at the older generations.
I shoot Tiago Pieres, which is the only Portuguese in the Word Champion Tour ( WCT), Aritz Aranburu, Spanish Pro surfer and former WCT athlete, and spanish pro surfer Indar Unanue, Marlon Lipke.
I also shoot some Portuguese surf references, such as Francisco Canelas, Edgar Nozes, Pedro Booman.
While editing, i discovered " shot yourself in the foot again"…
"Wave of the Day", "Wave of the Year" These are terms not used very lightly when thrown Laurie Towners way. In Fact "Biggest wave ever paddled into at Shipsterns" is still used when describing the wave he took off on in Febuary of 2006. With an all star cast including Joel Parkinson, Andy Irons and Dylan Longbottom, it was Laurie that took home the Gold on this trip, proving at the young age of 19, that this day was not a fluke, this was simply just one of the early signs of his young career that Greater things were to come.
