Student projects of the course "Creative Thinking in Music—Psychology of Education" taught by Prof. Eleni Lapidaki (users.auth.gr/~lapidaki/index.htm), Associate Professor of Music Education, Department of Music Studies, School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

The course—attended by both music and visual arts students of the School of Fine Arts—outlines an inter-artistic learning approach that arises from a complex range of factors – among them, changes in the art worlds, the society, and the economy; the potential for interdisciplinary forms of expression and communication; and growing expectations amongst students that education should expand their potential for personal satisfaction and civic participation.

One of the key challenges of the course is to enable music students to “mess up” with the ‘picture’ and visual art students to “mess up” with ‘sound’ in order to expand their creativity beyond the roles and specializations that the university and society assigns to it.

For a number of students the course also serves as a preparation for the unique, on-going (since 2000), and sustainable interdisciplinary project C.A.L.M. (Community Action in Learning Music— calm.web.auth.gr/) that aims to communal creative engagement between “high-risk” Greek schools and the music department.
