The residents of the places we make are our true clients. Housing is a basic need: decent stable housing at an affordable price is a huge benefit that is life changing for many. One of the the most rewarding aspects of doing this is not the awards, or being able to make a living doing what we love to do, but the incredible stories of the lives we’ve been lucky enough to serve.
Density is a word that has negative associations for many people, but designed well density produces vibrant and green communities. Thanks to all who came out on Friday, April 24, to the DB+P office to support Victory Gardens. We raised nearly $5,000 for Victory Gardens, a project of Garden for the Environment that plants vegetable plots in yards and lots around San Francisco, putting food at city-dwellers' fingertips. Thanks to everyone who donated, mixed, and mingled for making it a great party!
Adjacent to the Alkali Flat/La Valentina Light Rail Station in Sacramento, this four-story mixed-use building will bring more than 60 units of affordable housing to a housing-light, infrastructure-rich area. The ground level will include six small flexible street-front micro-commercial spaces designed for use as artist studios or galleries, as well as retail space including a cafe with outdoor seating in the central court.

In April of 2009 David Baker was invited to the University of Oklahoma Architecture School as the Bruce Goff Chair of Creative Architecture to lecture and teach a short workshop (charrette in architect lingo).
