This wonderful Seahorse is a very rare variety of a Longnose Seahorse. Although it is known here as a Zebra Seahorse this is not quite the correct name, as the Zebra Seahorse is only found in western Australia and is, perhaps, even rarer than this one.
Whatever it's correct name, there is no denying that this is one of the most beautiful seahorses I have ever seen. According to one very experienced Dive guide, this is the first time in about 15 years that one with this pattern has been seen in Lembeh. Another remarkable critter from Lembeh
Juvenile and adult Roundface Batfish (Platax teira) are distinguished between the difference in there shape. While the adult displays an almost rounded body with a dark circle / blotch inbetween the ventral and pectoral fins the juvenile displays large pointed anal, ventral and soft dorsal fins. The adults colour is usually a grey to light brown with large darker brown vertical bands and a soft yellow ventral fin. Juveniles display dark brown to black vertical bands with white to light grey bodies. These fish can usually be seen in and around shipwrecks, sheltered bays, deep offshore, lagoons and seaward reefs.
Size: Length 60cm.
Diet: Algae & Seagrass.
