What started out as a backdrop video for a New Hope Oahu weekend service turned into a full blown rain/fire/hazer/freestyling music video shot in the parking lot of the Sand Island offices. This version is the cut we did to Cece Winan's song (which was going to be replaced by the band and a live singer).
We shot with a 5D, two 7D's (running off and on at 60fps), and a Panasonic 3000 on a dolly. Joel switched between his 7D with a 5D on his steadicam through out the shoot.
We shot with a 2K, various work lights, and the giant rented work light as the back light. We had five hoses going on ladders for the rain, two garbage cans on fire, and the hazer filling out the back.
The dances were choreographed and performed by New Hope's Sign…

The trailer I edited with director/producer Nicole Beals for the upcoming documentary film. The interviews with Justin were shot by the Calnin Brothers. I shot the b-roll and on-the-spot interviews. Nicole did the text.
I've learned so much about this extremely broken system - veterans and their families struggling to navigate through the VA and civilian organizations to get the help they need and deserve.
Working on this project has really stirred me. The question that haunts me is this: these soldiers and their families are giving us their best (and sometimes their lives)...are we giving them OUR best when they get back?
Regardless of what you believe about the conflicts these soldiers are involved in, we still must heal this broken system so that not one more veteran or their family members fall through the cracks.

Here's the first of 17 videos I produced for a new website: UpperCervicalCare.com.
I scripted, hosted, shot, and edited these videos, combining a lot of professional footage recorded by the California-based company, Storyville, who produced a documentary called, "The Power of Upper Cervical" with their doctor interview clips.
My challenge was to take what was already shot and create a "journey" of web videos that the end user could experience with clarity, interest, education, and inspiration, crafting a media experience that would take these seemingly complex medical terms and concepts and make them accessible to someone who knows nothing about upper cervical care. To do that I needed to script and shoot some host sequences to help "hold the hand" of the end user and combine that with new interview footage and doctor office b-roll, which was overseen by Dr. Ray Drury.
I feel like we really accomplished what we set out to do: clearly and simply educate, inspire, and raise the awareness…

Introductory and informational videos are difficult to produce because you are always walking a fine line between emotion and practical information. How much do you SHOW and how much to you TELL? Is it accurate? Is it true? Is it too emotional? Not enough?
I felt that this video ended up being a great blend of head and heart, revealing many practical elements of the school and what makes it unique as well as telling some compelling and heartfelt…
I was happy to work with the New Hope team to produce this emotional story about a young woman who went through a radical depression while unwed, pregnant, and separated from her child's father, before finding life-changing hope through a promise from the Word of God. It was played during a message from New Hope pastor Wayne Cordeiro during a weekend service to highlight the message of hope in desperate and dark times.
We didn't have a lot of time to produce the short, but this did give me an opportunity to play with the Canon 7D, specifically shooting over-crank at 60fps.
The trick with a video presentation like this (as with most) is to decide what to cut out and what to keep, as there was a whole lot more to the story. But we focused on the main theme of the video and trimmed everything else away to produce something that had impact in the context of the service's message.
