On March 3, 2011, with his mom, dad & brother watching, Fennville High School basketball star Wes Leonard died of sudden cardiac arrest after sinking the winning shot to send his team into the playoffs. Wes could have been saved with an AED but it didn't work, the battery was dead. Almost one year later his mom Jocelyn Leonard now leads the "Wes Leonard Heart Team" making a difference & saving lives, one school at a time by education schools on the importance of AED's.

Video storytelling can be powerful when done with a good story, striking visuals & good editing. It takes viewers on a visual ride they'll enjoy & walk away with something from after watching it.

I'm a photo & video journalist for the Detroit Free Press which over the past few years has become a place known for great video storytelling from talented video journalists with 17 Michigan Emmy Awards, an industry leading 4 National Emmy Awards for online video & recently a prestigious Webby Award for best online sports video of Courtney Hawkins.

In May of 2008 I started shooting video features for the paper, three months later I headed to the Summer Olympic games in Beijing where covering the games also allowed me to do several video features about life in Beijing.

It's a huge learning curve for me but I'm discovering that telling stories with video is fun, challenging & something to keep me growing at & getting better.

  • This is a cool video. I too went through the same thing with my son this past year, it was hard!

  • Nice altitude Eric! A couple freshly charged Anti-Fog Inserts in the housing should eliminate any fogging potential on future flights. Looking forward to the next video!
