Courtney Hawkins was a All-American football player at Michigan State and spent 10 years in the NFL. He left all that to return to Flint, Michigan which is just as poor as when he left. Hawkins is the football coach at Flint-Beecher High School where he played. He came back to not just coach football but to be that male role model that many kids are missing in their lives. Hawkins is determined to teach life lessons to these kids through football.

I'm a photo & video journalist for the Detroit Free Press which over the past few years has become a place known for great video storytelling from talented video journalists with 17 Michigan Emmy Awards, an industry leading 4 National Emmy Awards for online video & recently a prestigious Webby Award for best online sports video of Courtney Hawkins.

In May of 2008 I started shooting video features for the paper, three months later I headed to the Summer Olympic games in Beijing where covering the games also allowed me to do several video features about life in Beijing.

It's a huge learning curve for me but I'm discovering that telling stories with video is fun, challenging & something to keep me growing at & getting better.
