Long Shadows. 12 min. 35mm. 1:37. Sound on vinyl record. 2009.
Re-animated frames of long lost and decaying home movies of the 1950's rendered in watercolor. Long Shadows assembles found moments and gestures into a haunted sequence, dreaming backwards through the seasons of a childhood spent on a northern lake.
The site specific soundtrack revisits the location of the original films, Mazinaw Lake, 60 years later in search echoes. Tape loops created from hydrophone, piano and field recordings, provide the aural accompaniment cut to vinyl record.
Winner of the 2010 Deluxe Cinematic Vision Award at The Images Festival for excellence and innovation in the visual realization of a work by a Canadian film or video artist.

Evensong is a sculptural sound installation created using piezo recordings made at St. Paul's Cathedral in London 2007. Voice and Organ were recorded by placing a contact microphone on the limestone surface within the cathedral. The recordings were transposed to magnetic tape, slowed down and spliced into loops. The work is exhibited as a series of looping fragments played back through a vibrating limestone surface via a custom built speaker.
It will exhibit as part of Sans Song, curated by Jenny Walton, at Western Front Gallery in Vancouver April 27th-June 1st.
