This was the fifth sermon in the "Simply Jesus" sermon series, and it focused on Mark 8:27-37. Youth pastor Justin Saxton used stories and images relating to his surfing days back in California. He illustrated that when a surfer has been knocked off his board, and is now underwater, his or her 'focus' is get to the surface quickly to get air.
Justin related that, in one instance, he was knock back under water 3 times by consecutive waves, and was 'desperate' to be able to breathe. He suggests this is how we should be concerning our 'connection' to God.
Many members of Faith's "Emerge" group (young adults) contributed to putting on the service. (For more info on their group, visit: http://www.4fcc.org/wordpress/?page_id=3867 ).

Advent is the season when we prepare to celebrate God's gift of Jesus. Our "Advent Lights" initiative was the way our church family shared their gifts of time and treasure for those in need—for the 2011-2012 season—just as God shared His Son with us.
This video is the entire service for the "Celebration Sunday" for our "Advent Lights" initiative. It summarized what members of our church did for the past two months in the community.

The ministries selected reflected Matthew 25:35-36:
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me."
Each ministry focused on one of the six verses in Scripture:
- Was Hungry
- Was Thirsty
- A Stranger
- Needed Clothes
- Was Sick
- Was In Prison

This is the Children's Christmas Program for 2011 at Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan. It was called, "Census Y0K" (an adaptation of "The Broadcast" by Michael R. Tatum). Co-authors were Joy Marie Zug and her brother, Mark Spickenagel.
It was an up-to-date dramatization of what it would have looked like if the people of Bethlehem would have had a cable news channel to deliver all the news that happened on that amazing night over 2,000 years ago when Jesus was born.
While understanding that the real story never changes, let's stretch a little bit and think about how a modern-day person might have reacted to some of the happenings in Bethlehem back then.
May God bless you in many ways in this Christmas season.

This Sunday was also the fourth of 7 sermons in "Before & AFTER" sermon series. Week 4 is special, since it is "Confirmation Sunday." Youth Pastor, Justin Saxton will discuss the difference Jesus makes in one's life concerning "Purpose"—before one 'knows' Him, and after one 'knows' Him.

This series is taking its 'theme' from the "E,A.C.H." campaign that started in the Detroit Metro area on Easter Sunday, and continues for 40 days until June 3, 2011.
E.A.C.H. is an acronym for "Everyone A Chance to Hear" the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The 'campaign' is now preparing to reach every person in the Detroit Metro area with Jesus' message in the 40 days following this Easter.
