The Cab driver in the film is the uncle of the producers who was a black cab driver for many years. As he had no previous we were nervous about David getting the performance right, driving and acting in such a small place. However, even though we may have been nervous David wasn’t and it really shows in a very natural and fierce performance.
We developed a screen play based on our access to 3 black cabs and The Mill post production company letting us use the building as a base.
We used all non-actors apart from Phill Deguara and a crew built up with people with all different media experience. For example we used a friend who by trade is Art Director but with his knowledge of lighting was able to do a DOPs job. We spent little money on this project and it was shot in the early hours of the morning in Central London.
Lucky we had lots of support from ‘The Mill’ particularly Jean Claude's work mates who made up the entire crew. They were also happy for us to use some of the lenses they had accumulated over the years. The mill also did an online and grade for us in the Baselight.
This was originally a test for the cameras but when we watch the rushes we were pleased so continued polish the film. We had to re shoot the ending as we were not to happy with it at time. So in all, this took us two days to shoot. Bar the expense of the cameras and lenses which were people own property the total budget was about £500 and that included dinner, sound equipment and 3 parking tickets )o;
