We love Earth Hour. We don't understand why anyone would want to keep their lights on all night when they've closed shop and gone home. We took a bunch of Firewinders to the South Bank in London and met up with some new friends. It was good to see some notable buildings on the landscape become darkened silhouettes. If you don't know... we're all about off-grid and wind-powered lights... we're part of the solution, not part of the problem.

We went to Handley Page Lab at City University in London to conduct a series of controlled experiments using a wind tunnel on our final production units. Amongst our testing was a top end speed test where we successfully demonstrated Firewinder's performance at winds in excess of 75mph - universally called Hurricane speed. Exhibiting as part of Newcastle's Design Event 2008, Firewinder was again invited to participate in the Lighten Up exhibition organised by Re:Design - this time we were showcased in a curated exhibition within the North Tower of the Tyne Bridge. We also installed a Firewinder on the rooftop of the bridge where it can be seen until the end of October, from as far away as the Millennium Bridge some 400 metres away.
